Google Merchant Center

Google Merchant Center is the platform where retailers upload and manage product data that powers Shopping ads, Performance Max retail campaigns, and free product listings across Google.

In practice

Merchant Center holds your catalog: titles, descriptions, prices, availability, images, identifiers, shipping, and tax. Google Ads reads that data to build Shopping ads, so the quality of what sits in Merchant Center determines which searches your products can enter and how they look when they do.

The account also enforces policy. Products get disapproved for missing identifiers, price mismatches between feed and site, image problems, and prohibited content; whole accounts get suspended for misrepresentation, which is a site-level trust judgment rather than a feed error. Disapprovals are usually a same-day fix; suspensions require changes to the site and a formal review.

Merchant Center also carries website verification, shipping and tax settings, and the link to Google Ads. Every e-commerce onboarding starts here, before any campaign is touched, because a clean feed is worth more than any bidding change.

Why it matters

Shopping and retail PMax cannot serve a product Merchant Center has not approved.
