Offline Conversion Import

Offline conversion import uploads events that happen after the click, such as qualified leads, booked appointments, or closed deals, back into Google Ads or Meta, matched to the original click so bidding can optimize toward them.

In practice

For any business where the sale closes on a phone call or in a CRM, the form submission is not the outcome; it is the beginning of one. Offline conversion import closes the loop. The click id (GCLID on Google, or enhanced conversions for leads using hashed email) is captured with the lead, stored in the CRM, and uploaded with the outcome and its value once the lead progresses.

Once the platform sees which clicks became customers, Smart Bidding stops chasing the cheapest form fill and starts chasing the profile of a closer. In our experience this is the single largest lever in lead-generation accounts, larger than any keyword or ad copy change, because it changes what the algorithm is trying to do.

The requirements are unglamorous: a CRM with lead stages that get updated, a field to hold the click id, and a scheduled upload. Google supports direct integrations with major CRMs, scheduled sheet uploads, and API pushes.

Why it matters

It is the only way to make the platform optimize for customers rather than contacts.
