The Client

Woodfield Laundromat Express is a laundromat in West Hempstead, New York, on Long Island. We ran their Google Ads, which grew new-customer sign-ups from 2 a month to 48 a month, 599 in all, while the cost per sign-up fell from $129 to $55.

The business offers self-service laundry, drop-off wash and fold, pickup and delivery, and commercial laundering. We relaunched their Google Ads in July 2023. In the first month the account produced 2 sign-ups.

2 sign-ups in July 2023. 48 in January 2025, and 48 again in February.

The Challenge

  • A habit business. People pick a laundromat once and keep going for years. The ads have to catch them at the moment they are choosing.
  • A tiny service area. Only people within a short drive are worth a click. Everything outside it is waste.
  • Mixed intent. "Laundry" searches include detergent shoppers, washer buyers and DIY questions alongside people who need a laundromat.
  • Hard to measure. A customer walking in with a basket leaves no trace in an ad account unless the funnel is built to capture them.

What We Built

1. An Offer Worth Signing Up For

The self-service ads send local searchers to a landing page offering a free $15 laundry card. Every sign-up is tracked as a conversion, so the account measures new customers, not clicks.

2. Campaigns by Service

Separate Search campaigns cover self-service laundry and pickup and delivery, so each service gets its own keywords, ads and budget.

3. A Controlled A/B Test

A self-service A/B test campaign ran beside the original from October 2023 to August 2024, testing bidding and ads head to head.

4. Tight Local Targeting

Every campaign targets a short list of towns and ZIP codes around the store, so the budget only reaches people who can realistically become regulars.

5. Daily Optimization via Ad Campaign Concierge™

Every campaign was reviewed daily through our proprietary Ad Campaign Concierge™ system: search-term mining and negative keywords, bid adjustments and budget moved to the service producing sign-ups.

The Results

  • 2023 (July to December): 112 sign-ups
  • 2024: 354 sign-ups
  • 2025 (January to March): 133 sign-ups, a pace of more than 500 a year
  • Sign-ups a month: from 2 in July 2023 to 40 by December 2023, and 48 in January and February 2025

Cheaper Sign-Ups as the Account Matured

In the first three months, a sign-up cost $129. In the last three months of the engagement, January to March 2025, it cost $55, on nearly twice the monthly budget. That is what Google Ads for laundromats can do when the offer, the landing page and the tracking work together.

Every Sign-Up

599 new-customer sign-ups from July 2023 to March 2025, for a business where a regular customer comes back every week.

Key Takeaways

  1. Give people a reason to act. A free laundry card turned a search into a new customer the store could reach again.
  2. Track the customer, not the click. Counting sign-ups is what let bidding improve month after month.
  3. Stay local. Town-by-town targeting keeps a laundromat's budget on people who can actually walk in.
  4. Patience pays. The cost per sign-up fell by more than half as the account learned.
