In Google Ads, open Admin, then Access and security. On the Users tab, click Remove access next to every user from the old agency (and Revoke on any pending invitations). Then open the Managers tab, find their manager account, click Remove access, review the preview, and confirm Unlink. Before you unlink, make sure your account still has at least one Admin user of your own and that billing does not run through their manager account.

Access level: You need Admin access on your own account — only an Admin can remove users and unlink managers. If the old agency holds the only Admin login, recover access through Google Ads support before doing anything else.
YOU'LL NEED
STEP BY STEP
Admin, then Access and security, Users tab. Your own email should be listed with Admin access. Google requires that the account keep at least one user, or a manager with administrative ownership, before a manager can be unlinked.
If the account is on monthly invoicing and the agency's manager account is the paying manager, the account will stop serving after you unlink it; move billing to your own payment profile first. Also note that remarketing lists and cross-account conversion tracking shared from the manager stop working after the unlink, so re-create conversion tracking in your own account if they set it up at the manager level.
On the Users tab, find each user from the old agency and click Remove access in the Actions column. Access ends immediately.
Invitations that were never accepted still appear on the Users tab. Click Revoke in the Actions column.
Open the Managers tab, find the agency's manager account, and click Remove access in the Actions column. Review the preview of how your account will be affected, then confirm by selecting Unlink.
Change the password on any Google login the agency knew, review Admin, then Access and security for linked products and third-party apps you do not recognize, and confirm your conversion actions are still recording.
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT
Once the old agency is out, follow our Google Ads access guide to add us as an Admin user, or accept our manager link request from the Managers tab. We start with a read-through of the change history to see what they left behind before we touch anything.
You stay in control. Everything above is reversible: you can re-invite a user from Access and security at any time, and a manager can send a new link request that you accept on the Managers tab.
COMMON SNAGS
You cannot remove them from inside the account without your own Admin user. Ask them to add you as Admin first. If they will not, contact Google Ads support with proof of business ownership and payment to recover administrative access.
Two common causes: your account has no other user or owning manager left (add yourself as Admin first), or the manager sits above another manager in a hierarchy that must be unlinked from the top. The error message names which one it is.
The agency's conversion tracking was set up at their manager level, and the shared tag stopped recording after the unlink. Create conversion actions in your own account and re-tag the site; we do this as part of onboarding.
Steps verified against Google's official help article on unlinking. Platform interfaces change — if a label looks different, the official doc is the tiebreaker.
